UNIT 5 - A TRIP TO THE ARCTIC OCEAN




Title: A TRIP TO THE ARCTIC OCEAN (Unit 5)

Level: Third cycle (Y6)

Topic:  Arctic and subarctic areas in Canada and the Antarctica.

Didactic main aim: To extend the pupils’ communicative competence by learning interesting geological facts about the north pole, the arctic and subarctic areas.

Vocabulary: North Pole, South Pole, icebergs, northern lights, global weather... // get warm, freeze... // cold, freezing...

Structures: Where does a polar bear live? // What's an iceberg? // Can you describe it?...

Socio-cultural aspects: The students will learn geological phenomena of the Arctic and Antarctic regions and how to explain them.

Resources: Written and oral descriptions, internet links, the written lyrics of the song of this unit, and videos.


ACTIVITIES - Timing: 7 sessions (45 minutes each one).

SESSION 1 (LISTENING)
a. Warm-up activities: Guess what it is! (6 minutes)
b. Documentary video (Listening a video about USA). (7 minutes)
c. Brainstorming: What do you know about this? (13 minutes)
d. Flashcards (Vocabulary presentation) (4 minutes)
e. Final task presentation: My favourite USA’s State (10 minutes)

b. Guess the magical formula! (10 minutes)
c. Terrifying stories (15 minutes)
d. Ice Dragon Hunters - Phonics (10 minutes)
e. End of class routine: Singing and dancing (5 minutes)

SESSION 4 (WRITING)
